Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (Half Pigeon Pose)

Angela, your pigeon is gorgeous!  I was so excited when I was on an airplane ready to depart and received your picture via text message on my phone.  What a fun surprise.  I have really enjoyed getting to know you through the 24 Day Challenge we did as a small group.  The support we’ve provided one another has been awesome and am happy we have become friends.  Namaste.

Apple Pie Steel Cut Oats Breakfast

 Cooking With Jax

Ohhhhhh how I LOVE Steel cut oats.  One of my favorite breakfasts, especially in the winter.  I usually make it the same every time but last night came across this amazing yet so simple Apple Pie Breakfast recipe and had to try it this morning.   It is as mouth watering as it looks!  I am eating it as I post with a glass of  hot lowfat eggnog soymilk.  Total comfort!  Before heading to yoga this morning I threw everything in the crockpot-total prep time 5 min. (I didn’t have apple juice in the house so I replaced that ingredient with a little natural applesauce, spoonful of pure maple syrup and dash of cinnamon.  Really tricky to goof up this scrumptious recipe.)  Upon returning from class the house smelled like baked apple pie!  It’s so yummy i could eat it for dessert too.  I can already imagine a scoop of Greek Yogurt or whipped creme on it!

This is great to throw in the slow cooker tonight on Christmas Eve if you’d like to start your Christmas morning with a healthy yet scrumptious breakfast (and perhaps indulge with your family a little later for Christmas Dinner.) I found this recipe here on Cooking With JaxJacqueline Delisle (Jax) blogs her original healthy recipes every Sunday.  Thanks Jax!

115 Calories  1 G Fat, 2 G Fiber per serving (1 cup) and that’s a generous size portion in my opinion!

FREE Giveaway: Start a Healthy New Year! 10 Day Herbal Cleanse Advocare

*UPDATE:  Congratulations to Kara!  Kara entered and won the 10 Day Herbal Cleanse Advocare! Kara, please email your shipping information to yogapeachblog @ gmail.com by January 9.  So excited to hear how you like it!

Happy holidays!  I am offering this exciting free giveaway to Yoga Peach readers!  This is such a great giveaway during the holiday season and I think this is the perfect way to start a fresh New Year!   One lucky winner will win a 10 Day Herbal Cleanse Advocare!

I did this 10 day cleanse as part of a 24 Day Challenge with a group of Yoga Peach readers in November.  Every person in the group lost weight, lost inches(one even lost SIX inches!), felt more energy and felt healthier! The two ladies who were “soda addicts” gave up soda entirely and the “coffee addict” actually lost her coffee cravings.  (I have significantly reduced my coffee intake as well and replaced it with something yummy!)  You may learn more about our group 10 day group cleanse and group 24 day group challenge on the review here.

If you’re looking to jump start a weight loss program or just lean out and tone up while preserving lean muscle and burn body fat, the cleanse is a great way to get started.  What I love most about it is that it’s not a fasting cleanse and you eat whole nutritious foods the entire 10 days.

The 10 day Herbal Cleanse can be used on it’s own or you may choose to use it with the 24 Day Challenge.  We are starting another group challenge the first week of January. It is highly recommended, but not required, to use the cleanse with Spark (mental focus energy drink with vitamins and minerals), especially for coffee and soda drinker.  GOOD LUCK!  Feel free to post questions or email me at yogapeachblog @ gmail.com

THE ISSUE:
Toxins are everywhere – in the foods we eat, the air we breathe and the ground we walk on. These toxins build up in our body and may contribute to weight gain, loss of overall energy and poor skin tone, among other detrimental effects. In recent years, more attention has been given to detoxification or cleansing, and for good reason. Contaminants such as air pollution, cigarette smoke, radiation and carbon monoxide found in our everyday environment greatly influence our health and well-being. Furthermore, since the typical American diet is filled with processed foods, which are more often bought at the nearest fast food restaurant rather than made at home, what we eat also adds to our concerns.

Over time, these toxins may affect our health and digestion. In the long term, the ability to absorb the foods and nutrients we consume daily can become diminished. When this happens, individuals no longer receive the full benefit of their daily diet. Every day, a person’s diet should provide essential nutrients to keep that individual performing at peak effectiveness. Proper absorption of nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals is essential to maintaining a healthy body. However, periodic lifestyle changes may generate the need for a “fresh start” to regain a healthy balanced nutrition routine with a solution that will also help other AdvoCare products you take once again reach their full potential.

Baked Potato Latkes & Curried Zucchini Latkes: Hanukkah Helpers. Happy Hanukkah!

photo via weightwatchers.com

Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate!  I love potato lakes, especially with Greek yogurt on top!   I’ve made baked latkes before, but this recipe is new to me and gets rave reviews.   Has anyone tried this recipe?   I’m excited to bake these when I return from my weekend holiday-bday trip.

I suggest serving with Greek Yogurt and a side of homemade applesauce.  Mmmmmm!!!

Cutting out carbs entirely but still want your latkes?  See the Zucchini Latke recipe link below.  It has cottage cheese in it and it sounds delicious!

Baked Potato Latke Ingredients:

  • Cooking spray
  • 2 pounds yellow-fleshed potatoes, such as Yukon Golds, peeled
  • 3 medium shallots, halved and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup pasteurized fat-free egg substitute, such as Egg Beaters or natural eggwhites
  • 3 Tbsp matzo meal or bread crumbs
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375ºF. Spray a standard 12-indentation muffin tin with nonstick spray.
  2. Use the large holes of a box grater to shred the potatoes. Working by small handfuls, squeeze the shredded potatoes over the sink to get rid of any excess moisture. Place in a large bowl.
  3. Stir in the shallots, egg substitute, matzo meal, thyme, salt, nutmeg, and pepper. Divide the mixture into the 12 muffin indentations.
  4. Bake 30 minutes. Spray the tops again with nonstick spray. Continue baking until browned and set, about 30 more minutes. Cool at least 10 minutes on a wire rack before serving. Makes two latkes per serving.

Makes 6 servings; 2 latkes per serving
PointsPlus value per serving: 4

The recipe is from Weight Watchers Baked Potato Latkes and Zucchini Pancakes.

Welcome to the World Beautiful Baby Girl

December 22, 2011 a beautiful and healthy baby girl is born.  WELCOME TO THE WORLD BEAUTIFUL BABY AND CONGRATULATIONS MOMMY, DADDY, AND BIG BROTHER.  I just received the most breathtaking picture update on Facebook and am so happy and excited for my friend.  Her little baby girl is so precious and I feel so much joy for her and her family.

I met my friend during a brief period in my life where I spent a few months in Canada.  I made two very special connections while in Canada, one of which was with this friend.  (and the other happens to be due with her first baby this spring!)  This friend has been the greatest inspiration in my yoga journey.  I often wonder if I would be where I am today in both yoga and life in general had we not connected and crossed each others paths.  She truly had an impact on my yoga practice, desire to explore new forms of yoga which in turn has lead me to follow the desire to become a birth doula, and had a meaningful impact on me that she probably never knew at the time.  I am grateful for the difference she made.  When I left Canada I wasn’t able to say goodbye to her.  I vividly remember my call with her while I was on the road back to the states.   I know the reason we never said goodbye to one another is because that door of friendship was not closing just because I was leaving!  We are certain one day we will see one another again.

My friend’s baby was DUE on my birthday December 26 (I find that amazing, maybe it’s just me!)  Today, December 22, she gave birth to a gorgeous baby girl.  I am full of joy for their family!  If you are reading this, my friend, I send you my love today and wish you and your family a wonderful new year with your new bundle of joy.

XOXO.
