Join us December 15-21, 2012 in Belize for our Yoga Renewal and Adventure Retreat! Spend 4 days in the awe-inspiring island of Ambergris Caye and 3 days in the scenic tropical rainforest of Mother Nature’s best kept secret. Enjoy the excitement and relaxation during this transformative vacation in magical Belize while we celebrate the beginning of a new cycle.  Reflect, restore and renew as you nurture positive change.  De-stress, detoxify, and nourish the mind, body and spirit in paradise along with adventure and yoga!  Belize It is a world class destination for the naturalist and adventurer.  Our exotic getaway occurs over the week the 6000 year Mayan Calendar was once predicted to come to an end.   Our final day will celebrate the beginning of a new calendar cycle as we prepare to enter a fresh new year in the center of the Mayan Empire.  Our last yoga session will take place atop the ancient Mayan Pyramids of Belize.

Duration: 7 Days / 6 Nights (4 days tropical island, 3 days tropical rainforest)

Trip Details: Please inquire for full trip schedule.  All yoga session, meditation and excursions included in price unless otherwise noted.  All participation optional.  Friends and spouses who wish not to participate in yoga are welcome.

Activities included am and pm yoga & meditation, snorkeling the famous Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley, sunset catamaran sail over looking the world’s second largest Barrier Reef, kayaking, float and relax in inner tubes as beverages are lowered down to you from the palapa bar and grill built over the ocean, guided medicinal nature trail walk, ancient Maya Ruins yoga followed by guided historical ruins tour and maya ceremony celebration.

Additional options:  scuba diving, fishing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, cave tubing, birdwatching, zip lining in the rainforest, horseback riding through the rainforest, tube through caves, river canoeing, swim Big Rock Falls, hike the world famous Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave, and more.  Individual professional yoga photography sessions available at the ancient Mayan Ruins.

Daily Itinerary (subject to change):

Day 1 (December 15):  Arrive at the Belize International Airport and transfer to the tropical island of Ambergris Caye. After checking into your beach mansion accommodations at La Perla Del Caribe this is your day to arrive, meet your week’s guide and fellow travelers, and acclimate to your new tropical environment.  Enjoy the evening at our welcome party on beach overlooking the world’s second largest barrier reef followed by light yoga session.

Meals:   Welcome island horderves, Dinner

Day 2  (December 16):  Wake up for morning yoga on the beach followed by a light traditional Belizean breakfast on the open veranda with spectacular views.  Relax and explore until mid afternoon. Next we’ll be guided through two premier snorkel spots including the famous Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley.  Hol Chan Marine Reserve is one of the most populars snorkel and dive sites in the Caribbean. Hol Chan has flourished into a unique refuge, with robust coral formations and an abundance of marine life largely due to its protected status, promising a unique experience which offers over 160 different species of fish identified at Hol Chan.   Our next stop nearby is Shark Ray Alley, where you will experience the excitement of swimming with large numbers of nurse sharks, sting rays, and schools of tropical fish. Enjoy the entire afternoon exploring the island, an excursion of choice, or join us for a relaxing and fun late afternoon at the Palapa Bar.  Here you will enjoy the spectacular views of the barrier reef while sipping a fresh tropical beverage or relax in one of their inner tubes in the Caribbean sea.  We will also enjoy yoga and dinner at this location.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner (for lunch, we encourage you to explore and enjoy the island’s local restaurants in town after snorkeling!)

Day 3  (December 17):  Beachfront morning yoga (option for beach yoga sculpt!) followed by breakfast.  Enjoy the rest of the afternoon swimming, exploring or relaxing. Evening yoga followed by dinner.  Just before sunset hop aboard a 40 foot catamaran and feel the warm tropical breezes as you sail and admire the barrier reef as the sun sets.  Island Appetizers, fresh tropical juice, rum punch, beer, soda and water included.  After sailing we will head back for dinner where we will be served home-style authentic Belizean cooking. End the evening with yoga.

Day 4  (December 18):  We begin the morning with yoga and breakfast followed by the afternoon to relax on your own.  Today is an ideal day for an afternoon of cruising the island by golf cart, scuba diving, fishing, swimming, kayaking, visiting the spa and try a Maya abdominal massage or other relaxing body treatment, or feel free to just relax on the beach*.  Evening yoga will escape to a beautiful surprise location followed by a cultural dinner experience.  *excursions on this day are an additional options and not included.

Day 5  (December 19):  We begin the morning with yoga and breakfast followed by transportation to the mainland.  We will arrive  scenic Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve which is the largest protected area in Belize, boasting an immense Rain Forest and natural Wildlife Sanctuary.  Our estate cottage accommodations at the Hidden Valley Inn & Reserve are set in a private nature reserve set on 7,290 acres of wilderness in the Maya Mountains of Belize.  Cottages are surrounded by wild orchids, bromeliad, lilies and ginger flowers and appointed with fireside seating, full bath and shower, writing desk and complimentary in-room terry-cloth robes.

An area of awesome beauty and diverse landscape, the reserve is home to many of Belize’s native cats, rare raptors and wildlife.The reserve includes miles of trails, crystal clear creeks, majestic waterfalls, verdant ravines and breathtaking vistas.  Over 81 species of wild orchids live here, clinging to the walls of rocks and fern that line aqua-blue jungle pools.  Hidden Valley is a sanctuary and paradise for the wild.  The continuos flowering of these plants throughout the year produces nature’s own kaleidoscope of brilliant colours and the crisp air is always heavy with a fragrant, exciting aroma.   In the early evening join short walk guided through a medicinal nature trail walk and learn about different species of medicinal plants and trees and alternative medicine. Dinner and yoga to follow.

Day 6  (December 20):   Enjoy morning yoga overlooking the 1000 foot waterfalls listening to the sounds of the water flowing.   Enjoy the afternoon on your own relaxing or exploring our new environment with an excursion* Chose from canoeing the macal river or Barton Creek Caves, tube through caves floating on water through this majestic caverns where stalagmites and stalactites amaze your thirst for adventure, horseback ride through the rainforest, zipline through the jungle, swim Big Rock Falls, or visit and hike the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave that is described by the National Geographic channel as “the most spectacular cave in this part of the world”. Enter deep into the underworld, you will have a first hand view the skeletal remains from the Mayan princess which, along with the pottery once used to place offerings to the Gods. Evening yoga along the falls followed by a special rainforest dinner.  Additional options around the area include hiking, swimming, birdwatching, nature trails, Mayan Ruins Exploration, photography, Hiking swimming, horse back riding through the rain forest, birdwatching, nature trails, Mayan Ruins Exploration, natural history interpretation, and photography.  Evening yoga followed by dinner  *excursions on this day are an additional options and not included.

Day 7  (December 21):  This morning we will head to the Ancient Mayan Ruins to commemorate the ending of the 13 Baktun on December 21, 2012.  This event is a once in a lifetime experience for any visitor on this date as the 6000 year Maya Calendar once predicted to come to an end comes marks the beginning of a new calendar cycle. Our yoga and meditation at the ancient epic center of the Maya pyramids focuses on reflection, restoration, and renewal in celebration of the upcoming year.  Following practice you may take part or observe the momentous occasion in both Maya and Belize history.  A professional photographer will join us on our last day to capture the once in a life time moments atop the Mayan Ruins.  Each participant will have the opportunity to partake in a yoga photography session taken on the ancient site.  Individual professional photographer sessions are an additional option and not included.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Our last day will conclude by 11:30am.  Depart for the Belize International Airport or complete your day admiring the beauty of Belize.  If you intend to depart Belize on December 21, 2012 please book flight departures for 3:00pm or later.  If you intend to spend this evening in Belize this is an ideal afternoon zip lining gliding over 1750 feet over the canopy of our rainforest, cave tubing or enjoying a relaxing massage.  Please let us know if we can assist if you plan to spend December 21 in Belize.
